Rare Star Wars Toys
Star Wars toys are among the most sought-after collectibles out there. The classic movie spawned a huge and dedicated following among children who longed for every possible toy Kenner and other manufacturers could produce. In time, these kids grew older and their interest turned from action figures to other matters. With adulthood, however, came a sense of nostalgia for those childhood days spent reliving rebel battles against Darth Vader's storm troopers and the songs of Ewoks wafting across a forest. Interest in those toys grew as aging Star Wars buffs began collecting the toys in earnest. Today, some of the cheap action figures of the late 1970s and early 1980s can bring well over two thousand dollars.
Almost everyone who was alive in 1976 can remember at least one Star Wars toy. The movie was so popular that produce after product was introduced quickly. Among all of those toys, however, some stand out today as being among the most rare and coveted Star Wars toys.
Consider the Boba Fett action figure that boasted a real rocket launcher on his back. The mercenary character was popular and the standard figure sold well. Somewhere along the line, the manufacturer considered a wide release of the Fett figure outfitted with a rocket launcher on his back that would fire real (plastic) missiles.
The figure was scratched. That might be because the movie character didn't have any such contraption, but a more likely explanation was the toy maker's realization that rapidly fired small plastic missiles were likely to expose them to a great deal of potential liability. America may not have been quite as litigious thirty years ago as it is today, but the risk of a company-crushing lawsuit was still real enough to give people second thoughts about making tiny replicas of mercenaries with spring-loaded equipment that could probably take out an eye from twenty feet.
Somehow, much to the pleasure of today's collectors of Star Wars toys, a few of the Boba Fett's with special gear did end up escaping the company's design area. Some experts estimate there are only a few dozen rocket-launching Boba Fett action figures out there. These rare Star Wars toys can fetch a handsome sum when they are discovered.
Unfortunately, more of them are sold than exist. That is because even The Force has failed to protect Star Wars toys' collectors from nefarious and unscrupulous counterfeiters. No one knows how many faux Boba Fett's have been "created" by action figure modifiers with bad intentions, but it does appear as if there are more fakes on the market than there are genuine articles. As such, any collector offered one of the rare Boba's should definitely think twice before making a purchase without first obtaining expert authentication.
There are a people out there who didn't care for Star Wars and cannot grasp the popularity of the collectible toys based upon the film and its sequels (and prequels). However, there is a contingency of toy collectors out there who are on the prowl right now for a Boba Fett with a rocket launcher. And they are prepared to pay for it if they can find it! This special Boba Fett is among the rarest of Star Wars toys.
